This is a fully mature First Growth benchmark from Pauillac: the legendary Château Lafite Rothschild 1993. Celebrated for its aristocratic elegance, perfume, and weightless structural refinement, Lafite’s 1993 vintage stands as a testament to the château's severe selection and winemaking mastery during a challenging Médoc harvest. Now enjoying a gorgeous plateau of fully evolved tertiary maturity after over three decades of careful cellaring, the nose opens with a delicate, fragrant bouquet of dried cassis, dark cherry preserves, and plum skin, seamlessly layered with hallmark Lafite markers of pencil lead graphite, cedarwood, cigar box, dried violets, and earthy forest floor. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and remarkably silken, where Pauillac's classic firm structure has softened into fine, melted tannins, enlivened by a fresh spine of natural acidity that carries into a long, dry, and savory mineral finish.

Highlights

  • Vintage: 1993

  • Region/Appellation: Pauillac, Médoc, Bordeaux, France (Premier Grand Cru Classé / First Growth)

  • Producer: Château Lafite Rothschild

  • Grape: Classic Bordeaux Blend (Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot)

  • Style: Fully Mature, Noble, Silky, and Aromatic First Growth Red Bordeaux

  • Perfect for (food pairing): Fine cuts of slow-roasted rack of lamb with a garlic-herb crust, dry-aged prime ribeye or wagyu steak, roasted squab, pan-seared duck breast, or tender venison loin. Its tertiary notes of cedarwood, graphite, tobacco, and forest floor also make it a magnificent companion for pan-seared wild mushrooms, truffled risottos, or a well-curated plate of mature hard cheeses such as an aged Comté or Gouda.
