This is an ultra-rare, benchmark Grand Cru library release from Burgundy’s smallest white Grand Cru vineyard: the Domaine Blain-Gagnard Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2005. Situated entirely on the gently sloping, south-facing limestone amphitheater of Chassagne-Montrachet, Blain-Gagnard holds a minuscule, prized parcel of very old Chardonnay vines planted in 1939, yielding wines celebrated for their sheer aromatic decadence and seamless, spherical texture. From the legendary, universally acclaimed 2005 vintage, this bottle has entered an exquisite, fully mature drinking window. The bouquet opens with a captivating, multidimensional perfume of baked yellow apples, poached orchard pears, candied Meyer lemon, and white acacia flowers, seamlessly layered with toasted hazelnuts, crushed limestone minerality, honeycomb, crème brûlée, and subtle warm brioche. On the palate, it is lavishly textured, broad, and opulent, enveloping its mature tertiary core in a satiny mouthfeel supported by an enduring spine of crystalline acidity that glides into an exceptionally long, savory, and mineral-laden finish.

Perfect for (food pairing): Butter-poached lobster tail, pan-seared Dover sole meunière, roasted turbot in champagne butter sauce, seared jumbo diver scallops with hazelnut crumb, or classic roasted Bresse chicken with morel cream. Its mature hazelnut, beeswax, and crushed stone complexity also pairs magnificently with sturgeon caviar on warm blinis, sweetbreads in puff pastry, truffled wild mushroom risotto, or an artisanal selection of mature hard cheeses such as an aged Comté, Beaufort d'Alpage, or Gruyère.
