This is an exceptionally rare, fully mature library release of the cult icon Pinot Noir from Bell Hill. Located in the Weka Pass sub-region of North Canterbury, New Zealand, Bell Hill is world-famous for its high-density, Burgundian-style vineyard plantings carved directly into an old lime quarry. This intense limestone-rich terroir lends their wines a structural precision, chalky minerality, and structural longevity that is virtually unmatched in the Southern Hemisphere.
The 2011 vintage was a cool and low-yielding season that produced wines of incredible aromatic beauty, structural tension, and longevity. Total production for this vintage was highly restricted, yielding a minuscule run of just 2,366 bottles.
Having spent well over a decade in the bottle, the 2011 Pinot Noir has evolved magnificently into a profound, tertiary masterpiece. It opens with an incredibly expressive and complex bouquet of dried cherries, dark cranberries, and pomegranate, overlaying deep layers of damp forest floor, sweet spice, dried thyme, and a distinct, smoky limestone reduction. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and beautifully resolved. The vibrant, cool-climate acidity remains perfectly lively, effortlessly lifting the savory mid-palate and driving into a deeply persistent, dry, and distinctly saline mineral finish framed by silk-like, fine-grained tannins.
