This is an exceptionally rare, legendary cult benchmark: the Château de Fonsalette Côtes-du-Rhône Réservé from the fully mature 2011 vintage. Crafted by the iconoclastic Emmanuel Reynaud, Fonsalette is the celebrated sister estate to the legendary Château Rayas, utilizing the same traditional, non-interventionist winemaking philosophy of whole-cluster fermentation in ancient oak foudres. Unlike the rare single-varietal Syrah bottling from the property, this flagship red blend relies on a Grenache-dominated blend that delivers the family's trademark ethereal elegance and weightless structure. The hot, low-yielding 2011 vintage yielded a deeply expressive wine that has evolved into peak drinking territory after 15 years of cellaring. It opens with a soaring, intensely aromatic nose of macerated wild strawberries, kirsch, and dried orange peel, seamlessly layered with complex signatures of white pepper, provencal garrigue, woodsmoke, and a hint of forest floor. On the palate, it showcases an exquisite, silken texture, effortlessly balancing its concentrated, sweet red fruit core with vibrant, fine-grained structural tannins and an expansively long, dry, and savory mineral finish.

Its complex spice notes, fully resolved tannins, and savory tertiary profile also make it an extraordinary companion for slow-cooked game bird stews, truffled wild mushroom risottos, savory earth-driven pastas, or a well-curated plate of artisanal hard cheeses like a mature Comté or an aged Gouda.
