This wine is a relatively "new" addition to the DRC stable. In 2008, DRC signed a long-term lease for three plots of Grand Cru vines (Clos du Roi, Bressandes, and Renard) from the Prince Florent de Merode estate. This 2011 represents only the third vintage of this wine ever produced by DRC, marking their first venture into the Côte de Beaune for red wine. While many associate DRC with the silkiness of Vosne-Romanée, this Corton offers a more rugged, earthy, and powerful expression of Pinot Noir.

Highlights

  • Vintage: 2011

  • Region/Appellation: Corton Grand Cru, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France

  • Producer: Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

  • Grape: 100% Pinot Noir

  • Style: Earthy, structured, and savory. It has a "ferrous" (iron-like) mineral core typical of Corton, wrapped in DRC’s signature refined tannins.

  • Perfect for (food pairing): This "wilder" Pinot Noir is a match for gamey flavors. It would be stunning with Roasted Squab (Pigeon), Wild Boar Ragù, or Duck Confit. Since you are working with caviar, a more experimental but luxurious pairing would be a slightly chilled glass of this with warm blinis and a rich, nutty Oscietra caviar.
