this is an exceptionally rare, cult white Rhône jewel from the legendary Reynaud family stables: the Château de Fonsalette Côtes du Rhône Blanc "Réservé" 2015. Crafted by Emmanuel Reynaud of mythical Château Rayas fame, Fonsalette’s white cuvée is produced in minuscule quantities from northern Rhône sandy-limestone parcels planted just north of Orange, vinified with traditional low-intervention methods and extended aging in old oak demi-muids. Hailing from the warm, generous 2015 vintage, this bottle has blossomed into an intoxicating, layered profile that displays the unmistakable Reynaud aromatic fireworks. The nose explodes with ripe apricot, white peach compote, and baked golden apples, seamlessly interwoven with acacia flowers, crushed fennel, honeycomb, toasted pine nuts, dried orange zest, and exotic crushed stone minerality. On the palate, it is lavishly textured, viscous, and medium-to-full-bodied, perfectly countering its unctuous, glyceric weight with a lingering, bitter-almond salinity and fine herbal freshness that carries into an endlessly long, hauntingly fragrant finish.
