This is an aristocrat of Burgundy royalty and one of the most sensual, sought-after Grand Crus in the Côte de Nuits: the Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Echezeaux Grand Cru 2018. Masterfully crafted by sisters Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée Mugneret from a minuscule, prized parcel in the lieu-dit "Les Rouges du Bas" (perched high on the slope just above the grands crus of Vosne-Romanée), this wine perfectly embodies the estate’s signature style of breathtaking aromatic delicacy, cashmere-like texture, and seamless power. The generous, warm 2018 vintage brings superb fruit depth and ripe tannin structure while retaining sublime freshness and vineyard purity. The bouquet explodes with an intoxicating perfume of ripe Morello cherries, wild black raspberries, and damson plums, inextricably bound to dried red rose petals, violets, whole-cluster spice, forest floor sous-bois, exotic incense, and crushed limestone minerality. On the palate, it is lavishly textured, spherical, and weightless yet profoundly deep, draping a concentrated core of sapid dark fruit in ultra-fine, melted tannins and vibrant saline acidity that glides into an endlessly long, fragrant, and aristocratic finish.
